A great tourist interest is expected in the Kibela temple during the new tourist summer season in the coastal resort Balchik. Representatives of over 80 touroperators have visited the antique architectural landmark which is considered to be the most well-preserved Hellenistic temple in Bulgaria. As a result, the archaeological landmark, a noteworthy place while being in Balchik, will be included in the program of the holidaymakers. Tourists will be able to indulge in the world of ancient history while attending the exhibition of artifacts which were discovered in the temple. Some of the most valuable finds are twenty whole or partially preserved marble statues, more than 20 inscriptions, most of which Latin, about 200 coins dated back to the 3th-4th century A.C. and many others. The ancient site was discovered in 2007 during the construction of a hotel complex. The construction stopped and the owner offered it for sale. Balchik municipality cannot provide the requested 680 000 EUR needed for the purchase and the area and the ownership of the land are still private. The temple is still not revealed completely and the humidity affects parts of it. The Kibela temple is believed to be built in the 280-260 B.C. and it had been functioning for more than 700 years. According to archaeologists, the building can be completely renovated and may also receive a status of a monument of world importance.
