The excavations are being financed by the Order of Knights Templar in Bulgaria, announced Prof.Ovcharov. It is supposed that crosses date back to 14-16 century and they might be related to the rock monasteries all around.
“Roussenski Lom is, as I may say, like Athos of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom…Nisovo rock monasteries, which are extremely interesting and in fact yet unexplored scientifically, are only 2km away. They haven’t been yet published; they have murals of 13 century and kings’ monasteries. Their founders are Bulgarian kings-Ivan Asen Vtori, Ivan Alexander and others.” shares Prof.Ovcharov.
