Bansko and Pamporovo hunting for skiers

Anita Valentinova, source: journey.bg, 06.10.2008

Hardly did the summer season finish at Bulgarian seaside when its winter resorts began hunting for skiers. Hectic preparation is on in the well-known Bulgarian winter resort Bansko, though the official tourist start will be in the middle of December. Everywhere you can see glamorous hotels and cosy traditional Bulgarian restaurants, called “mehani” which are being renovated also huge area of the road is in a process of repairing. “Some of the buildings are renovated, whereas others are thoroughly rebuilt. It is expected an excellent season, owing to the promising weather forecast for perfect skiing conditions this winter.”, declared the owner of Martin Hotel. The production of delicious strawberry and blueberry jam has already begun so as to welcome warm-heartedly this season’s tourists. “The point is for making homemade delicacies which are ecological and healthy. Both Bulgarians and foreigners admit that the food is lip-licking when they tasted it for the first time.” Claims Mrs.Rahova. Representatives of tourist companies are now looking over Bansko hotel complexes. The aim is to make it clear what kinds of facilities are available in hotels and what complimentary extras can be offered. Although prices have recently been raised, accommodation rates are not increased. A night on a daily Bed and Breakfast basis costs 10-12€ in a 2-star hotel, 15€ in a 3-star hotel complex and 20€ in 4-star hotel.

Pamporovo winter resort is not far behind in its preparation. This season the famous ski resort, located on Rhodopes Mountain Range will make a boast of its 2 new ski tracks and modern 6-seat lift. The length of the new ski tracks is 7km and they will make the connection between the summit Snejanka and near resort and villas village Stoikite. This expensive equipment is already installed and it covers around 4km of the new tracks which are also cut through. It is expected that the lift will have been put into operation by the end of October.
