Official name of the competition: FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Bansko 2009 Disciplines: Downhill and Super-Giant Slalom for Ladies February 28 - March 1, 2009

Bansko winter resort will host the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup downhill and Super Giant races for Ladies from the 28th of February 2009 until the 1st March 2009. It is said that Bansko was chosen over the Italian resort Treviso.

After 25 years away from the international ski scene, Bansko winter resort will have the honour of hosting the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Bansko 2009 . Moreover, Bansko makes its return to the world ski stage by hosting two events of the Womens' World Ski Cup. Ski World Cup contests are characterised by their prestigious standing in the world of sport and also by the great interest raised among competitors, fans, sponsors and the world's media alike. There is no doubt that Bulgaria confirms its prominent position as a host of major international ski competitions after being a host to the two European Cups for women and for men (2007 and 2008). Bansko, which is the host of the Ski World Cup (ladies downhill, ladies SG), confirms its position of Bulgarian top-notch resort offering high quality comparable with the most popular worldwide skiing destinations. Furthermore, it is supposed that Bulgaria will become a regular host to a number of future world class skiing events. The confidence reposed in Bulgaria proves the point that it can work actively and efficiently on the development of skiing as a popular sport at home and on a world level/scale. The elite of the international ski for women, lead by the winner of the Grand Crystal globe for 2008 Lindsey Vonn from USA will arrive in Bansko to participate in the World cup races for ladies. Other top skiers like Anya Pershon, Julia Mankuzo and Tina Maze will also attend the prominent event FIS ALPINE SKI WORLD CUP Bansko. However, it will be the first time for Bulgaria to host a race from the Ski World Cup for women in two of the most attractive disciplines - downhill and ladies SG. Organizers of the prestigious event are Bulgarian Ski Federation and Bulgarian Ski Pool, with the support of the State Agency of Youth and Sports, ULEN and Municipality Bansko.

Two of the most attractive and exciting events in Alpine skiing will pose a big challenge for both Bulgarian competitors and the world's leading skiers. We all will be able to take pleasure in the Downhill and a Super Giant Slalom which are to take place on the Banderitsa Track in Bansko, respectively on the 28th of February and the 1st of March 2009. According to the mayor of Bansko, Alexander Kravarov, this is an event of great importance for everyone in the region. World famous names, like Alberto Tomba and Marc Girardelli, admit that Bansko is one of the best resorts in the world. The celebrated sportsmen even draw a parallel between the Bulgarian complex and the American winter centres.
