Bath in Bankya becomes a balneology venue

Sofia municipality plans to turn the bath in Bankya into a balneology center. The municipality will invest 60 000 BG in the new preliminary project for the restoration of the building. The project should have been finished by the end of the year. Consequently, a descriptive work plan will be further developed. The construction project requires a funding of 1 million BGN, pointed Mrs. Fandykova. On the occasion of the celebrations from October 2010-April 2011, it is planned that a series of workshops will take place as their purpose will be a comment on the conservation process of the building which houses the bath. Many students, foreign experts and Sofia’s architects will participate in the event. Sofia’s mayor pointed out that although Budapest is famous for the balneology treatment, it features only one mineral spring, whereas Bulgaria’s capital city boasts 42 mineral springs. The temperature of the curative water is in the range from 30 to 90 degrees. Unfortunately, only 40% of this water resource is properly used today. Therefore, it’s the municipality’s responsibility to make use of the full resource, as well as put efforts into attracting more tourists.
