Borovets ski resort opened officially the winter season 2008/2009

The winter season 2008/2009 in the resort Borovets was marked by charter flight full of tourists and heavy snowfall. The General Executive Director of Balkantourist Development Serviced, Neli Sandalska declared that UK hotel bookings have come down by about 30% due to the global financial crisis. It is significant drop for Bulgarian mountainous resorts, having in mind that British tourists are 80% of all tourists in winter.

The new lift in the resort, 4-seat “Markudjik 2” is already in operation. It is valued at the amount of 7 million lv. New equipment replaces the former ski lift. Its length is one km and its capacity is 2400 people. The lift is delivered by “Poma”, a producer of equipment, which the most crack European resorts are provided with. The new system for artificial snow will be working from this season in Borovets. The installment will service ski tracks of “Yastrebets 2” and “Yastrebets 3”. 30 new movable and stationary snow tools are also delivered, thus the total amount of investments for the new season is estimated at 10 million €. “Borosport” has constructed open water resource with installment which directly provides water to the artificial snow machineries. The price for the usage of all lift equipment per day costs 17€ in weekends and 27€ in weekdays. The daily ski pass card for 4-seat “Yastrebets Express”, which services ski tracks of ski zone “Yastrebets”, is 13€. “Borosport” also assured that mountain insurance in also included in the prices of all ski pass cards. The night skiing will be at the same price as last year and it will start every night at 9p.m. The traditional “Fire show” , conducted by ski instructors will be every Wednesday at 8p.m. at the ski track “Iglika”. The marking of ski tracks in Borovets was completely replaced before the beginning of the winter season, in order to ensure the excellent ski season.
