Bulgaria eases visa regime for tourists from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldov

Anita Valentinova, source: expert.bg, 05.06.2010

Bulgaria will ease the process of issuing visas to residents from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova, Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov was quoted. The prime goal is to stimulate the flow of tourists from the abovementioned countries. Moreover, this should be done as soon as possible, bearing in mind that Bulgaria's Black Sea has happened to be an attractive destination for holidaymakers from these four non-EU countries. Since the summer season has started, the time required for the issuance of a Bulgarian visa will be shortened to 10 days. Currently it takes between 10 and 30 days to have a Bulgarian visa issued. New changes imply that now organised tour groups will have their visas issued within 10 days after all requested documentation has been filed. Free of charge Bulgarian visas will be issued for people who take part in international youth sport and culture events in Bulgaria. These also include school and university students, accompanied by teachers and professors, as well as researchers and scientists aged up to 25.

A one-year long multiple entry Bulgarian visa will be issued to people who already had at least one Bulgarian visa given to them in the previous year, who have used it accordingly, who have met all Bulgarian legal requirements and who have proven their necessiry to travel to and from Bulgaria on a regular basis. In this category fall, for instance, people who own properties in Bulgaria and respectively members of their families. The multiple entry visa of 2 to 5 years will be issued to people who used a multiple one-year entry visa in the past two years and who have met all legal requirements. According to Mr. Mladenov, easing procedures will bring 30% increase in tourist numbers from the four countries in question.
