Bulgaria promotes the tourist product on the web

Anita Valentinova, source: expert.bg, 18.09.2010

After having finished an analysis on the issue, Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Energetics concluded that Internet tends to be the most efficient and beneficial communication channel for the promotion of Bulgaria’s tourist product. Hence, 6.5 M will be allocated for Bulgaria’s project that envisages the creating of a tourist information portal with integrated multimedia catalogue. The project is being financed under the operational program ‘Regional development’. It should have been completed by the end of 2011. The idea is to establish a new design for www.bulgariatravel.org in order to turn the website into a modern, official tourist guide where potential tourists, as well as institutions will be able to obtain comprehensive information, regarding Bulgaria as a tourist destination and other related issues. Moreover, the website will be illustrated with photos, clips and other multimedia tools. There is no doubt that Bulgaria needs such informative source and this will enhance the present advertising campaign on air. The goal of the project is to enhance the effectiveness of tourism marketing and boost the promotion of the tourist product.

E-commerce within EUR is expected to increase by 20% in 2011, announced Euromonitor. According to Forrester Research, people, who are looking for business and holiday trips, seek more information on the Internet. Currently, their number is 80%, but it is expected to increase shortly. There are two main activities that are related to the fulfillment of the project. One of them is aimed at the creation of the website and the interactive catalogue. The latter will include thousands of photos, video clips and compelling descriptive texts, translated in 9 languages. The second part of the project envisages the promotion of the website through online advertising campaign. Although lacunae in the project’s fulfillment seem to be many, tourism industry still hopes that funds will be spent consciously and the ambitious project will meet everybody’s expectations to revive the constantly evolving tourist product.
