Bulgarian Archeologists Unearth Unique Coins and Pottery
Standart Daily, 25.08.2010
A team of Bulgarian archeologists have unearthed a unique collection of Hellenic coins and pottery during excavation works along the Varbitsa River, near the village of Sedlari in southern Bulgaria. “The finds date back to the Hellenic epoch that spans over the fourth century, I think,” said Katya Melamed from the Archeology Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. "The coins and pottery tell us a lot about the lifestyle of the proto-Slavs, who at that time inhabited the left bank of the river. Their settlements survived until the first half of the 13th century,” she went on. “Unfortunately, we have to temporarily freeze our work due to lack of financing,” Mrs. Melamed went on.
