Bulgarian Resorts Lack Greenery

Standart Daily, 20.06.2005

Your country has a beautiful seaside, but the hotels are huge, says Ali Alp, secretary to the administration of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey - Mr. Alp, how exactly can Turkey and Bulgaria undertake joint projects in tourism? - Over 15 million of tourists come to Turkey, and especially to the Mediterranean region, every year. I think that Bulgaria should pay more attention to advertising. We see as important the cooperation with the countries of the Black Sea region. We could also invest more into advertising campaigns and improve our market strategy. Thus more holiday-makers visiting Turkey will be able to learn about your beautiful seaside, too. Bulgaria boasts beautiful nature and lovely places in the hinterland. This potential should be explored. There's no sense talking about competition between our two countries. We have to join efforts and draw in more tourists who would like to tour the whole Balkan region. - What would you say about the idea of using the potential of the so-called "golden triangle" - Sofia, Athens and Istanbul - offering attractive business travel packages? - It would be nice to use this opportunity. I don't think it is very difficult to organize package trips to these three cities. - In your opinion, what should be done in the Bulgarian resorts to increase the tourist flow? - I came to Bulgaria for the first time. Your country has a very lovely coast, but the dense construction is a problem - hotels are built too close to each other. This spoils nature and holiday-makers do not like it. You should build smaller hotels with more greenery around. Greenery is your most important problem. However, if you manage to improve planning you will get rid of these problems. The quality of service is especially significant, too. see source
