Bulgarian Tourism Makes the Day in Berlin

Sofia News Agency, 12.03.2005

The second day of the International Tourism Fair in Berlin ran with the focus put on Bulgarian stand where the country represents its tourism. The advertising campaign on Bulgarian tourism opportunities, destinations and products has been organised and actively promoted by Bulgarian Embassy in Berlin, whose façade has turned into an impressive tourism-promoting billboard. A total of 35 companies and two municipalities - Plovdiv and Varna - are exhibiting this year in Berlin, with portfolios including lavish options for both summer and winter season holidays. A martenitsa - Bulgarian symbol in wish of health and personal success - will be handed down to each visitor of the Bulgarian stand. The country's representation will be accompanied by the music of Bulgarian ethno-jazz band "Bulgara." The upcoming summer season is expected to mark prevailing tourist interest towards long-distance destinations, such as US and China, largely explained with the strengthening positions of the euro currency against the dollar, according to Klaus Laepple, chairman of German tourist bureaus and tour operators association. The world's largest tourism fair, the 39th International Tourism Bourse (ITB), opened Friday in Berlin, attracting a record number of exhibitors. The annual fair attractedy 10,409 tourism companies and institutions from 181 countries and regions, which marks an increase of 3.8% than last year. The 39th Berlin fair will last and is expected to be visited by 140,000 people by Tuesday when it closes down. see source
