Chinese People Infested Sunny Beach

Standart Daily, Boryana Dimitrova, 16.05.2005

Underwear sells in the streets; roar of shovels ruins the calmness of the resort. The Asian guests pay Euro 800 for an all-inclusive holiday at the Bulgarian seaside Chinese people infested the hotels in the Sunny Beach resort. The first groups of Asian tourists arrived last week. The resort has been included in the catalogues of the Asian travel agencies, after Beijing officially declared Bulgaria a tourist destination. A Chinese pays Euro 800 for a 7-day all-inclusive holiday in Sunny Beach resort. Each of the Chinese guests spends another 800 Euro on trips in the country and on shopping tours in Varna and Burgas. Reportedly, they prefer shopping to sunbathing on the beach. Chinese tourists spent US$15 billion on holidays abroad last year, sources from the Tourism Agency reported. Sunny Beach welcomed the guests from the East with heaps of solid waste, mud, and roar of heavy machines. The seafront alleys are blocked by the stands of street vendors, who sell underwear and vests. The Chinese tourists do not seem much impressed by the situation in the resorts, because most of the underwear, which sells on the stands, is made in China. They buy like crazy polished topshells at 0.5 lev each, but they go crazier on seeing perfumes, which are only said to be authentic, but sell at the coaxing price of 10 levs per vial. Many of the Chinese guests in Sunny Beach have arranged their holiday on their own, without the mediation of the travel agencies. They pay Euro 35 to Euro 70 per roomnight (breakfast included), depending on the category of the hotel. This is why they prefer 3 or 4-crown hotels. The Chinese groups also show interest in 2-day trips to Istanbul, for which they pay Euro 80 per person. Against this modest sum the Chinese tourists feast in Turkish restaurants and also enjoy belly-dancing parties. At 80 Euro per person some Chinese tourists go on a 2-day trip to Sofia, with an included visit to the Rila Monastery, where they sample Bulgarian wines and rakia. see source
