 The ski resort Semkovo is situated around 170 km south from Sofia and 17 km to the north of the town of Belitsa on the south-eastern slopes of the Rila mountain It is located among pine-tree forests with an exclusive panoramic view towards the high Rila peaks. Semkovo offers excellent opportunities for winter sports and summer mountain tourism. The site is situated on 1750 meters above the sea level can be reached through a picturesque mountain road. The climate is Mediterranean with a mountain influence which makes the resort all year round suitable for relaxation and recreation.

 Semkovo has six ski runs with different ranges of difficulty. Three of them are on the northern slopes with a total length of 4 km, operated by eight drags.
The runs of relatively small lengths and moderate slopes, which makes them suitable for starting or inexperienced skiers and children. The average annual temperatures in the resort are between 7.5oC on the northern slopes and 9.5oC on the southern slopes, while the average temperature in the coldest month of January is in the range of -10 and -2oC. Once it falls in the late autumn, the snow cover stays for about 250 days over the higher parts of the mountain.

 In the summer the resort is a starting point for many tourist routes in the mountain. Several signed tourist paths start from Semkovo and climb up in the Rila mountain with the most interesting of these being those leading to the Vapski Circus and the Vapski Lakes (2.5 hours), the Polezhanski Circus and the Dry Lake (1.5 hours) and the Skalishki Circus and Skalishki Lakes (2.5 hours).
In Semkovo you can find accommodation at reasonable prices with all necessary facilities and ski equipment.
A very interesting place to visit nearby is the “dancing” bear sanctuary founded and co-financed by the Austrian association “Vier Pfoten” and the Fondation Brigitte Bardot.
