Eight new hotels under construction in Pamporovo

BULGARIAN mountain resort of Pamporovo has all the chances to become the second national winter tourism centre. It is our idea to make Pamporovo a four-season resort, Smolyan regional governor Dimitar Palagachev said at the opening of the ski season. Some BGN 20 million has been invested in the resort's infrastructure this year, two-thirds of the amount has been provided by Pamporovo AD. The lack of enough three- and four-star hotels is the main reason for turning down more than 12,000 reservations by Turkish tourists for early January, said the association of owners, Pamporovo 21st Century. Currently the resort offers 6,000 beds but only 2,000 of them meet the criteria for luxury tourism. Eight new hotels will be built in Pamporovo next year. Most of the plans are ready, the financing has been secured, Palagachev said. At least BGN 50 million will be invested in the resort in 2005, Chepelare mayor Todor Bozukov added. The efforts of the association are currently focused on Russian tourists. Therefore the Bulgarian embassy in Moscow will organise days of Pamporovo on December 15 through 17. The event is expected to be closed by vice premier Lidia Shuleva. see source
