Bulgarian Minister on Economy, Energy and Tourism, Traicho Traikov, has stated that the expected growth in tourism sector for winter season 2010/2011 is 5-10%. He said that obviously the sector recovers and it has handled the recession. He pointed out that the growth in the tourism sector was 5% last year, but we expect a 5-10% increase for this year's winter season.

MIET envisages that Bulgaria will feature all conditions in order to utilize all opportunities and accomplish all accompanying products that will turn it into year-round holiday which provides the traveller with interesting, luxurious, attractive products and unforgettable experiences. Thus, tourists will put our country on their must-visit holiday list. The new tourism strategy, the plan for the development of cultural and historic tourism, substantial investment in advertising campaigns are some of the measures which the ministry plans in order to improve the overall image of Bulgaria as a holiday destination. Traykov also added that forecasts for the summer season are also positive and the expected growth is estimated at about 5% - 10%.

The minister added that the airports in Sofia and Plovdiv have received more requests for charter flights from the United Kingdom and Russia. He also said that the main proposals for the new Tourism Act would include the establishment of a National Tourism Organization which will unite all branch associations in the sector. The act will also regulate the tourist zoning. Thus, the emphasis will be laid on the specific appearance of every region. Moreover, every region will be specialized in providing a specific tourist product and therefore the quality of the service will be improved.
