Laguna Garden

I have been to a lot of Greek island, Turkey, Las Vegas, Florida etc.,
But Bulgaria is absolutely fabulous!!! We are planning on going back in june/july 06. The holiday was probably the nicest we have ever had!!. Albena ia so beautiful with its amazing long beach and beautiful forests we went horse riding through the forest to the beach really worth the money about £10 for 1hour. We travelled to various places by the local minibuses (very cheap). Dobrich is much cheaper than Albena for everything especially leather boots and clothing. They only downside of this holiday is the food was very german orientated and very very repeatative!! especially if you stay there for two weeks. But on the other hand eating out is so very cheap!! In Luna park all drinks where 1 lev about (35p)in the evenings and I really got stuck into the red wine and my hubby the lager!!
Take pictures of your family members with you as they do amazing lazer engravings on quality keyrings for 10lev, and oil/pastel painting are stupidly cheap!! the artists there are out of this world!!.
The botantical gardens in Balchik are worth a visit and it is really easy to get there by minibus from the local bus station, as is golden sands, varna etc.,
If you where glasses get your eyes tested in Albena for Free and we bought two pairs of prescription glasses with designer frames for total of £36 for both pairs!!! sPecsavers bet that!!

We went to laguna garndes June 2005, 6 of us my mum 42, dad 43, partner19 brother 18 and younger brother 12 and me 18. We all had a great time, we went on the jeep safari great laugh and we were well looked after. We went into varna town to be honest the rep told everyone to be careful for pit pocketers but to be honest you get this anywhere, you cant walk around london without being carful.
We spent a few days around the pool and had fun with the girl lily from the parrott. My dad threw her in the pool on the last day. ( poor girl) The airport was derilict and basic but was quite nice to get off the other end and not be pushed about and having crowds of people trying to get there luggage. It was only us in there.
We also loved the bar just across from the hotel they do the best pizzas and swetelina is the best waitress.
Tip for anyone who wants a canvas painting of a photo you have take it with you as you walk along albena you see some of the most talented people who dont earn a year what we get in a month.
Oh and plus fags well cheap prestiege i was smoking 21p a pack bargin just a shame you could only bring 200 back cause its classed as a international county.

First time in Bulgaria and we were very impressed. The hotel was absolutely fantastic and personally we could not fault it in any way. The food was excellent, great choice for breakfast and the evening meal and as much as you could eat, hence I put on three pounds while we were away. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room cleaning service was excellent. Mini bar in the room which was very handy, also as we didn't arrive until midnight there was food laid out for us in our room which was unexpected but much appreciated.

The pool for the hotel was well looked after and the staff from the Green Parrot made you feel very welcome, a lovely way to spend the afternoon.

The resort itself was clean, safe and the people were very friendly. There was plenty of walks you could do without having to negotiate traffic and plenty of places to drink and eat with excellent service in all of them.

The beach was lovely, golden sands, shallow water so brilliant for the children and plenty of space due to it being so wide and long. Also, from most hotels it is only a five minute walk to the beach.

Nightlife was very good and not at all rowdy. Very mixed nationalities visiting Albena and although the English are in the minority (which we liked) the music is either traditonal Bulgarian or live bands playing English music, especially the Tropicana Cafe and the Poco Loco. Drinks are very cheap and if we have done our sums right its about £1.20 a pint and £4.00 for a bottle of wine.

All in all a fantastic holiday.

My husband and I stayed at Laguna Garden Hotel and I can truly say it was one of the best holidays of our lives - hotel was fantastically clean, staff very friendly, reception staff particularly, chambermaids couldn't speak much english and we didn't speak bulgarian however we managed to get by....

The food in the hotel was good, but I found a lot of people seemed to expect only english dishes - the best part of going abroad is to experience different foods and cultures - alas there were a lot of people who were determined to complain. I actually saw the restaurant manager in tears after receiving a particularly bad "dressing down" by a party of 5 individuals. I enjoyed the food and always found enough of a choice to satisfy my appetite.

I was also there when the hotel experienced the water problems - a pipe in the main road burst... and contrary to the previous report our First Choice rep worked fantastically hard to reassure us all. Another pipe burst at the pool but this was only muddy water flowing into the surrounding areas. Our rep was almost in tears when she was continually harrassed by the above party of 5 individuals!!!!

Enough about that.

Entertainment in Albena is mixed and I agree with previous comments about it not really the place for teenagers - not enough young places for them to go.

Tropical cafe, however, is the absolute best place to be. Live band - Express - every night of the week - they are brilliant by the way. And Nelly behind the bar makes the best cocktails ever. Petya and Diana also deserve a mention.

Poco Loco is a great place to eat with waiters also acting as entertainers too. On the beach I would recommend The Old House, food is excellent, though I do wish they would tone down the traditional music - which is ok for about 10 minutes - but gradually "gets on your nerves".

Eating out in Bulgaria is very cheap and again I agree Albena is one of the most expensive of all the resorts. Going a short way out of Albena to the nearby Kranovo is recommended the restaurants there are very cheap compared to Albena.

You will find a lot of nationalities visiting Albena, Germans, Russians, Finnish, Dutch. This in my opinion only adds to the enjoyment.

Albena really do need to do something about the prostitutes though, my husband was accosted every time he went out alone - though he wasn't flattered as he realised they were only after his money. Pickpocketing is also a big prob. At our welcome meeting our rep warned us to be vigilant at all times and this turned out to be good advice.

Trips sold by the rep also turned out to be excellent. We did jeep safari and I can honestely say that even though we could be considered old fogeys we had a brilliant day out. We also took the opportunity to visit Romania - well, that was an experience, our guide, Alex, was very knowledgeable and gave a great commentary on all we saw. We also did the fantastic yacht picnic - though do be warned - don;t get involved in Russian drinking games - you'll only loose - as I did!! Great fun though.

Bulgaria is steeped in history and culture and it was our first time there I will certainly go back esp to Laguna Garden, we had a great time. Big hello to Miss Excellent (our rep Jacky).

Our holiday was bad. Would never use First (last) Choice again. In the hotel, the friendly staff were the cleaners, always polite and helpful, didn't speak much english, but we got by. They tended to leave lots of bog roll for you - probably because they knew what your guts would be going through when you ate from the restaurant. Restaurant by the way was absolute cr*p. When we first arrived we thought great, the food looked ok, everything was presented pretty, waiters took your plate away (for the lazy folk that couldn't do it themselves).

Then about 4 days into our holiday, the water in the hotel was turned off. We had no toilet or washing facilities. In the toilets next to the restaurant people would go in, do their business, and leave without washing their hands (there were no hand wipes or anything). Then they would venture into a busy restaurant and start to touch the breads, spoons, cakes etc, spreading their germs. We weren't the only ones suffering, as you could tell from the smell from the toilets at the pool.

Then things went from bad to worse, when a pipe at the pool burst and brown dirty water ended up in it (maybe mudbath will be in the catalogue next year). The pool wasn't emptied, or filtered properly, but they did throw in a few buckets of chlorine. They dug up the ground next to the pool, VERY QUICKLY, we reckon it's happened before. Rep was unpleasant (obvoiusly hasn't heard of customer service).

Beach was nice, weather was good, locals are quite friendly. The train is good, takes about an hour for a round trip. The area generally is very tidy and clean. Bikes that are like cars were fun also. Varna airport - my hut in the back garden's bigger, and in much better condition than that!

i wouldn't particularly recommend the Laguna Garden to anybody.

Laguna Garden

We had great expectations of Bulgaria due to all the hype over the last year. We went out with the hope of buying a holiday home as we had heard what good value the property was. The hotel was very clean and of a good standard for a 3 * hotel much better than that of the Greek 3* hotels. The beach outside the hotel was one of the most lovely beaches with pure white sand and beautiful blue waters. The staff were very friendly and the prices were very reasonable compared to the uk, £1 per pint of beer, £2 for a pizza and £2 for a whole bottle of wine though 3 times more expensive than outside the resort. The restaurant food was the worst food I had ever tasted and the resort food was just as bad. If you didn't like cheap cuts of meat stewed in slop you were in big trouble. This spoilt our whole holiday as my partner I love good food. We traveled the whole coastline looking for property and the houses were just not available. The prices were so inflated and nearly as expensive as Spain and Bulgaria is not up to Spanish standards. We felt very uneasy and there was someone around every corner waiting to rip you off. If you are thinking of buying property in Bulgaria my word of warning is DONT! I wish I had not wasted £900 on a holiday that was sub-standard. We also had all our duty free stolen from our case at the Bulgarian airport, when we contacted the Gatwick police they said this was very common as it was such a poor country so please put locks on your cases!!!!

Well what can I say, I am still amazed at the fantastic holiday our family had in Albena, I had heard all sorts of stories about bulgaria before my trip, some good but some very bad, but me being me, I have to try things for myself, so I done some homework before I booked the holiday and decided to book.

Well I am so glad I did it is one of the best holidays we have ever had, the hotel food was ok, just much of the same thing night after night. Breakfast was cereal, all breads, beautiful fruit's,and a cooked breakfast if you wanted, and yes it wasn't like an english cooked brekkie but we were in Bulgaria and it was to be exspected, if you want english food when you are abroad you will have to pay the price, and I can assure you it would be alot more then we paid at the laguna Garden alot more I have to say it was driving me mad about all the people falling ill " because of the food" one said it then they all jumped on the band waggon, day in day out someone had something to moan about the food, people get upset tummy from anything, you know they use different oils, spices and all sorts from us, and some people are more prone to it than others anyway enough about that!!!!!!

The resort itself was great for us, i really do not think it would suit alot of people though, like teenagers who want to club it although there was a disco bar there, i found the hotel staff fantastic, helpful and polite, gallin and bobbie who serve around the pool were great very hard workers, waited on you hand and foot, and the street sellers if you said NO THAT WAS IT,it was so nice not to bothered by them, you could even window shop without hastle, how nice is that abroad.

For the children they had, go-carts, electric scooters, bikes, and buggies to ride on, and for the very young a fun fare, the only problem there we just could not get our 3 year old away from it, we found it very safe for the children, my 10 year old would go of with the friends he made for an hour on the scooters, at times I thought I was in brighton there was so many of them but they were having fun, there happy and your happy, he wants to go back so we are booking again for next year. And I must say if you have a special photo of someone you must take it with you, there are alot of very good artist's on the streets we had an oil painting done of our children from a photo we had done on our last holiday it came out fantastic and so cheap, i don'k know the size of it but very big with frame around £45.00 for an oil, what can i say. food drink very very cheap, ice cream from stall around 40p 1 Lev very nice too, it was mcdonalds ice cream was 15p, they have a mac's in varna.

Well i have gone on I know and we did meet so many nice people "Brian" being one with his family, john and Donna rebecca and conner, very nice people to talk to, and we all canot wait to go back to the laguna garden see you all there

We have just had a brilliant holiday in Albena.

The Laguna Garden was very impressive and always clean. All the staff were friendly and the reception staff were always helpful and spoke very good english. The only downside was the food in the hotel and after the first few days we didn't bother going to see what was on offer. We were aware of this before we went on holiday so it wasn't too much of a disappointment and it was so cheap to eat out it didn't bother us.We tended to eat pizza or toasties by the pool in the day and go out at night. The daily total for lunch and evening meal was £15-£20 for 3 people including drinks!Gallin and Ronnie who serve at the pool were so cheerful and worked very hard.

Most nights were spent in the Tropical cafe which had a good atmosphere and there was a grassy area with a Wendy House for the children to play.My daughter had a childrens cocktail every night which was expertly made by Nelly and she was always made to feel special.

I would definately go back to Albena and the Laguna Garden. Also even though most days we didnt go to the pool until 10.30, we always got a sunbed.

I went to Bulgaria on my own (I left my family at home, as we are looking for a place to buy a holiday home and I went to see what was what! as I had heard a lot about the country.) I was a little wary going on my own, but had no need. The Bulgarian people are every gracious and genuine people, I found everybody, whether a bar tender, a street trader, room cleaner ALL lovely people.

The resort of Albena has so much for everybody, I walked quite a lot on this holiday and there were parks after parks along the beach for the children! bike to hire( as there is a safe road type pavement running along side the entire stretch of beach and this continue out of Albena also if you wish to go further.)the stretch of Albena beach is approx. 3.5 km. along the beach are volley ball nets, 5 aside football nets, basket ball nets, parks on the beach with swings slides, roundabouts etc. the beach bars are usually quite close to these, so you can have a drink whilst the children play etc.. Bikes to rent, also 6 and 8 seaters shaded bikes.

The resort is brilliant. Excellent place for children. The hotel is a 3 star plus, and deserves it. extremely clean! the cleaners take their job very seriously. the restaurant was ok, the breakfast was probably the best meal the evening meal had a great salad selection with meats and cheeses not too much hot food selection, may be 3 /4 choices, with various vegs. chips every night, which i suppose is good for the kiddies. however it is so cheap to eat out if you want a change go and eat out. All in all absolutely lovely place, Balchik and Cape Kaliakra worth a trip, what views, could also see dolphins at cape Kaliakra. Very much reminded me ok Corfu 10 years ago. Worth a trip.

Also First Choice excellent tour operator, our rep Jackie deserves a mention, Helped everybody. Always had a smile for everyone.

Having been to Turkey for the last 2 yrs Altinkum and Turunc,we thought we would have a change and try Bulgaria.I'm pleased we did.The resort was everything we needed not to busy, prices were good, maybe not as cheap as the brochures say, especially in the resorts, about 2.1/2 levs ie £1.00 for a pint in Albena, the meals were about 8-10levs ie £3.00-£4.00 and were very good. While their we ate out a few times,The fishermans cottage, and Poco Loco, green parrot and the tropical deserve special mention, the entertainment in Poco Loco was brilliant,it's a dance restaurant, and the kids are really good.

The resort itself is very clean and the Gardens are kept perfect by a team of ladies who seem to be working day and night! The beach is also kept very clean, and is safe for children,as long they obey the warning flags, their are also lifeguards every 100 mtrs or so.

We stayed in the Laguna Gardens,I really could'nt fault it,The food was very good, plenty of choice at both breakfast and dinner, maybe not much of a choice for the younger kids, but there was always somthing and chips!
The bedrooms were good, ours consisted of a double bed and a single bed, mini bar(which you can hire as a fridge)approx 30 levs for 2 weeks,a TV limited channels, world news, eurosport, etc. The wardrobe space was a bit tight but we managed. My only winge would be the lack of air conditioning in the bedrooms, all the public rooms in the hotel are air conditioned, just the bedrooms that are not,you can hire fans approx 30 levs for 2 weeks, you can also rent a safety depoist box, again about 30 levs for 2 weeks.

While there we visited both Sunny Beach and golden sands, these are the other two main and bigger resorts than Albena.
Both seem very nice, but Sunny Beach was a bit busy.I liked the look of Golden sands
For future years.
If you visit Sunny Beach, take an hour or so out and visit nessebar, just a short distance from Sunny Beach but 2.1/2hrs from Albena.
All in All it was a brilliant holiday.
If you go to Albena and stay at the Laguna Gardens,I'm sure you will have a great holiday.

Laguna Garden

The Laguna Gardens is pleasant enough and the reception and room cleaning staff are more than happy to help you,the only slight complaints we had on arrival was that the room stank of stale smoke and no air conditioning, so we hired a fan for 35 levs for the two weeks, also beware the bathroom floors are lethal when wet! However the major downside was the noise from outside until about 04.00 every morning. The food in the hotel was good and plentiful but the waiting staff do tend to favour the German and Russian guests .I recomend the Bulgarian Ro`se and local beer is better than any I've had in the Med.The beaches are wonderful and the water very clean with ample eateries along the shore line.Unfortunatley there is not really alot to do at night time and the resort really is quite small.

If using taxis don't use the rank outside the hotel as they are the dearest but all the drivers are polite and willing to help you make sure you get to see what you want.In fact apart from the Jeep Safar ( waste of money) the taxi drivers will do most of the excursions available at a cheaper rate. Varna is good for shopping (50 levs return in taxi )
Baltchik is worth a visit as well and you'll soon discover that most things are half price when you are away from Albena.
Be prepared to pay for everything even if you've just spent £30.00 on a meal they still want to charge you for the tiolet which frankly I find insulting , but they are so poor it's anything to make a couple of pence.

Some tips ,Leave some change on your pillow and you get clean sheets every day and the room is that bit cleaner,
The more you tip the better service you get and they will remeber you if you go back,!!!
Take a good Mosquito repellent,
Don't worry about the jelly fish they don't sting,
Learn a couple of Bulgarian words and they really appreciate it,if not try German,
If you have a young family then Albena is perfect, they do go out there way for kids but if your family is in the teens then we were told that Golden Sands was the place to be.
Bulgaria and it's people are still learning about tourism but it's worth a visit ( we preferred it to Greece and Turkey )
Blagadoria
(Thank you )

Laguna Garden

Hotel Laguna Garden and sister Hotel Laguna Mare could not be faulted. Both these hotels were spotless and the rooms and service as good as we have had anywhere.Foodwise we always found some choice we liked. Both these hotels use the Hotel Laguna Garden for dining and swimming pool, this is no problem as both hotels are adjoined.
If you want to be with lots of Brits this is not the place for you, most guests are German,French and Scandinavian with maybe 10% brits.
The only minus is the evening entertainment in the hotels which is a duo singing in the Laguna Mare.
Albena is like a huge woodland park and very green.Hotels are situated around the beach area or farther back in the wooded area. There are mini trains running around to take you anywhere at reasonable cost. The whole area is pretty
safe not many cars and patrolled by police and security.
The exchange rate has gone down this year at the Airport it was 2.50 lev =£1,or 1Lev=40p the best was in Varna 2.62.The cheapest beer 1lev in most of resort 2.50 lev.You have to look around. Varna very cheap prices.
We had a very good holiday but if you are looking for another Benidorm this ain't it yet. But apparently "The brits are coming" so get in quick before they make Bulgaria like everywhere else.

Laguna Garden

First time in Bulgaria.Only one thing to say FANTASTIC.The hotel was kept spotless, the rooms clean and tidywith a shower out of this world, only let down the food catered very much to the German tastes. The swimming pool was great,no deeper than 1.3 metres.

The resort was lovely, quite compact but still plenty to see and do.The Brit bar was the Tropical, good food cheap drinks and really friendly service. Great waiter by the name of Jim.
I would recommend Bulgaria to anybody especially Albena.
The best thing you could say about Albena apart from the friendliness is it is really cheap.
I cannot wait to go back

Laguna Garden

The hotel was excellent, very clean and the food could not be faulted, especially the cakes Mmm, The hotel pool was very safe for children as it was no more that 1.3m deep. George the waiter from the Green Parrot Pub served round the pool during the day and he was a great person, very friendly, he looks after you all very well. The beach was as expected very beautiful and clean and there was plenty to do in the resort for families with children of all ages.
The resort was not as cheap as we had been led to believe, but was much cheaper than in Spain, Greece etc. The exchange rate was 2.68 levs to the £. The food in the resort was lovely but you found that all the places charged much the same as the resort is owned by one man, so no competition. Would definately recommend that hotel and resort to families and we would go to Bulgaria again in the future.
Beer 1/2 litre 90p
Large Pizza £2.00
Ice cream 15p
Mini trains round resort cost 10 levs (£3.50) for family of 4 - lasts about 1hr 10mins

Laguna Garden

We were moved to this hotel from the Kaliopa Garden just 2 weeks before our holiday. We were upgraded to full board and we must say this was one of the best hotels we have been to. The hotel itself was centrally situated and also just a couple of mins walk from the lively promenade and beach. The pool was beatiful and the staff at the Green Parrot - namely George served the pool during the day and the food was wonderful. We did not think that the resort was as cheap as we were lead to believe but definately cheaper than euro-zone. There was plently to do in the resort itself for children. A totally beautiful holiday although the weather could have been better

Laguna Garden

Beautiful Hotel in a great location, right at the start of the amenities. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the people bend over backwards to help you. The food in the restaurant was plentiful with a good mixture for the Germans, Brits etc. A little tip though...Don't sit out on the restaurant balcony to eat as the seagulls will swoop in and take your food from your plate. Fun to watch but not if it's your breakfast !!! Great beach only a minute away. Rip off clothing is excellent but avoid the perfumes are they're not.
A trip to the Fishermans House restuarant is well worth a visit at the very end of the beach.
Had a great time and are booking to go back next year.
