Irishmen and Frenchmen Visit Perperikon

The Standart Daily, 04.08.2006

"The flow of tourists wanting to visit the unique Thracian settlement Perperikon situated in southern Bulgaria is growing each week," says Prof. Ocharov. The exact number of visitors is unknown because entrance fees are not collected. However, during the weekends at least 1500 people visit the complex. French and Irish tour operators have already put Perperikon on their "must" lists. Perpericon's fame has even reached Japan. Japan's Ambassador to Bulgaria Koichiro Fukui has visited the ruins together with other Asian diplomats and promised to assist in attracting Japanese tourists. The construction of the 1.5-kilometer road leading to the complex has already started. The road together with two big parking lots will be ready by the end of September. In two or three years the construction of Perperikon's entire tourist infrastructure will be finished. See source
