Japanese Investors to Build Dairy Plants in Bulgaria

Standart Daily, 26.01.2011

“Japanese investors may build dairy plants in Bulgaria,” said PM Boyko Borissov during talks with MAIJI Dairies President and CEO Shigerato Assano at a working dinner in the city of Kamakura on Saturday. Bulgarian ministers Traycho Traykov, Miroslav Naydenov and Vezhdi Rashidov, and Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Japan Lyubomir Todorov also attended the meeting. According to Bulgaria’s Agriculture Minister Naydenov, Japanese investors may build a big dairy plant in Bulgaria and then export the output to third countries.

Meiji’s representatives said they would consider the Bulgarian offer. Currently, Meiji Dairies imports Lactobacillus bulgaricum to Japan. With sales reaching half a million jars of yoghurt a year, Meiji Dairies holds 40% of this market in Japan.
