Two towers will be built from the eastern part of the medieval fortress Krakra near Pernik, announced the deputy mayor of the municipality Michael Mikhailov. The remains of the stronghold will be restored in high altitude in order for the passers to have a look at the impressive fortress.
The restoration will be carried out under a project of Pernik Municipality for the full exposure of architectural values and the conversion of the fortress into a tourist attraction. The restoration project is due to begin next year. Since no documents are present in order to establish the authenticity of the ancient city, the idea of the conservation of the full site is impossible at this point. According to the National Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, Pernik residents can not prove what exactly were the buildings of the ruler, who defeated the Byzantine emperor Basil II twice.
