National Fair of Canoe Kayaking sport in the Kresna Gorge

Enthusiasts and fans of kayaking sport in Bulgaria will gather together in order to exchange experience at the Second National Fair ‘Kayaking-Struma 2010’. The event will be held from 4th until 6th of September 2010 in Strouma River where this sport can be practiced all-year round and the place is one of the most favourite of canoe kayak fans. During the first day kayak fans from Sofia, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Elhovo, Varna will compete at the newly constructed slalom trace. The initiative supports novices and advanced enthusiasts will have the option to show their competences at the swift current ‘The cascade’ which has the highest level of difficulty according to the International classification.
This year there will be many competitors will 2-seat kayaks which have gained popularity over the past years. These kayaks are wider and more stable so they can be controlled by people with less skills. Their principle of controlling is similar to the one of 1-seat, but two people control it, so this makes it more attractive. Special attention will be made to the kids who will compete with their parents in the discipline ‘Family’.
The second day will associated with ‘Regatta Strouma’ at the upper stream of the river near Kresna. The trace is of low level of difficulty and therefore all participants will have the chance to enjoy the experience. Kayak workshop will be held at the third day and many interesting activities will be held-techniques, rodeo and many others. Apart from supporting the novices, the event aims at the development of tourism in the region of the beautiful Kresna Gorge. Clubs and municipalities initiate joint campaigns to clean the water and organize various competitions. This is a clear indication that people are willing to turn the gorge and the river into a cleaner and more comfortable holiday spot.
