Days of Open Doors began in the Presidency in Sofia city with the opening of an archaeological exhibition of finds and monuments of medieval Bulgarian capitals Pliska, Preslav and Tarnovgrad.Anyone can visit the exhibition ‘’Following the footsteps of history -chronicles from the old capitals’’ which will take place until 10th of February 2010 in the lobby of the entrance and first floor of the Presidency in Sofia city.
About 12 000 EUR will be allocated for the popularization of Veliko Turnovo as a Balkan cultural tourism capital, announced the chairman of the Municipal Tourism Agency Mr. Panov. New information brochures, representing Veliko Turnovo, are planned to be issued and the logo of the town, declared to be Balkan cultural tourism capital, will be put on them.
The deputy minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism has presented opportunities for tourism in Bulgaria on the website of the Russian newspaper ‘’Komsomolskaya Pravda’’. Bulgaria will host a conference of the International Hotel and Restaurant Association (IH&RA) Board of Directors in May 2010. This was announced during IH&RA congress in Belgrade, Serbia.
Unconfirmed media reports have it that pop singer Lady Gaga may have a performance in Northern Bulgaria in the spring of 2010. Lady Gaga will perform at the “Lovech Fest” in the northern city of Lovech, according to the Standart Daily which claims that the local tycoon Grisha Ganchev and other businessmen have supported the local authorities in their bid to bring the pop star to the event.
More snow is expected over Bulgaria, although in moderate quantities, while the arctic grip will ease slightly as temperatures hesitantly edge upwards. Cloud cover will continue over most of the country and up to five cm of fresh snow is expected in northwestern Bulgaria. Average temperatures for the country will be between -2C and -8C, a considerable improvement from the average of -18C on January 26. Sofia should record temperatures of about -2C, the Bulgarian Meteorological Service reported on its website.

In spite of the global economic downturn, close to 271 000 tourists visited the Tsarevets Castle in the medieval Bulgarian capital Veliko Turnovo in 2009. Tsarevets is on a hill bearing the same name in Veliko Turnovo. The castle was the primary fortress of the Second Bulgarian Empire from 1185 to 1393, housing the royal and the patriarchal palaces.
Bulgaria's Minister of Energy, Economy and Tourism, Traicho Traikov, discussed with his Israeli colleague, Stas Misezhnikov, the possibility to attract more Israeli residents to visit Bulgaria's tourist destinations. A particular attention was paid to the beneficial opportunity to attract at least a part of the 800 000 Israeli citizens, who visit Turkey each year, to consider Bulgaria as their holiday venue.

Temperature records were recorded in Southern Bulgaria and the capital Sofia on Thursday, marking the second period of unusually warm weather since the new year set in. Thermometers soared to 14 centigrade in the capital, beating by two centigrades the previous record, set in 1963. In the southern towns of Blagoevgrad and Kardzhali and the central parts near Sliven and Sandanski, the mercury also zoomed up to record highs, ranging from 14 to 16,7 centigrade.
