One of the oldest monasteries in Europe receives tourists nearby Chirpan

The monastery “St.Atanasii” nearby the village Zlatna Livada (“Golden Meadow”), Chirpan Area, is thought to have been one of the oldest in Europe. It was founded in 344 by the saint Atanasii. He is believed to be one of great saints who have prayed for the cleanliness of Orthodox religion. There is a hole in the rocks next to the monastery and it was for those who have fast. The saint and his followers have spent their days to fast and pray. Nowadays pilgrims enter in it for health. There is a holy spring in the yard of the monastery which is believed to have curative water.
