Prehistoric settlement discovered in Sozopol

Prehistoric settlement, dating back to the second half of the sixth millenium B.C., was discovered during the construction activities of the camping site “Gradina” near the coastal resort Sozopol.
A group of archaeologists found the artifact accidentally and have explored the region for several months.
During the construction works of the Black Sea Star complex between coastal resort Sozopol and Chernomorets, a group of archaeologists came across the remnants of a prehistoric shrine. In a 6-metre deep shaft, the archaeologists find pieces of wood which date back to the third quarter of the sixth millenium B.C. Practically, the pieces are of the oldest wood which has been ever found in Bulgaria.
Another extraordinary artifact is related to the earliest forms of metal-producing, metal pieces dated back the second half of the fifth millennium B.C. were found during excavation works. Three prehistoric tombs were also found and they date back to the Early Bronze Age. Archaeologists claim that the site is the first registered prehistoric necropolis situated on the Southern Bulgarian seaside.
