Revenue from night-stays in Bulgaria’s leisure accommodation up in Q2 2011

Bulgaria’s accommodation establishments had a better second quarter in 2011 than last year, reaching 27 per cent occupancy and earning revenue of 165.3 million leva, according to National Statistics Institute figures released on August 18 2011. In the second quarter of 2011, there was an increase in the number of nights spent by foreign tourists in various places of accommodation in Bulgaria, by an overall 23.6 per cent. The statistics institute gave figures for the increases by percentage – not actual figures.

So, according to the statistics institute, for people from Malta, there was an increase of 138.1 per cent, from South Africa 136.4 per cent, Estonia 112.1 per cent, Croatia 101.7 per cent, Australia 90.7 per cent, Serbia 72.4 per cent, Korea 70.6 per cent, Ukraine 70.5 per cent, Slovakia 69.4 per cent, Hungary 65.1 per cent and Lithuania 53.6 per cent. At the same time, there were downturns in nights spent in Bulgarian accommodation by foreign nationals from Portugal (35.5 per cent), Cyprus (32 per cent), Luxembourg (30.3 per cent), France (23 per cent), Japan (22.1 per cent), Ireland (16.4 per cent) and Spain by 14.2 per cent. Bulgarians made up just less than 50 per cent of all overnight stays, and compared to Q2 2010, the number of nights spent by Bulgarians spent in the country’s accommodation establishments was up by 13.6 per cent. The Q2 figure for revenue was 14.4 per cent higher than in Q2 2010.
