Concert of the queen of fado Marisa in Sofia, Bulgaria

When: 31st of March 2011

Where: Hall 1 of National Palace of Culture, Sofia city

The world famous Portuguese singer Marisa, considered the queen of Fado, will please all fans in Bulgaria on 31st of March 2010. The concert will take place in Hall 1 of National Palace of Culture, Sofia city, Bulgaria. Marisa visits Bulgaria on the invitation of ‘BG Sound Stage’. Marisa is one of the greatest European music talents over the past few years. Marisa is regarded as the most successful Fado singer, following the legendary Amalia Rodrigues.

Mariza is the stage name of a popular fado singer. She was born Marisa dos Reis Nunes on 16 December 1973 in Lourenço Marques, Mozambique. At the time, Mozambique was known as the Portuguese Overseas Province of Mozambique.
Mariza is the child of a Portuguese father and a mother of partial black African heritage. At age 3, her family moved to Metropolitan Portugal, and she was raised in Lisbon's, historic quarters of Mouraria and Alfama. While very young she began singing in a wide variety of musical styles, including gospel, soul and jazz. Her father strongly encouraged her to adopt fado; he felt that participating in the traditional music would grant her greater acceptance in the Portuguese community.
