Anita Valentinova, source: expert.bg, 29.03.2011

According to a global report, there is an increase demand of SPA holidays. It’s good news that the demand of SPA tourism in Bulgaria has been increased 3 times in the last 5 years. SPA getaways are also highly popular worldwide and the demand has increased 2 times since 2004. It’s interesting that even in a period of crisis when the typical forms of tourism are not on the demand, SPA vacations draw the interest of holidaymakers.

According to an expert in the industry, the interest is provoked since the myths that SPA is a possible option only for the beautiful and rich people have been debunked. Just the contrary, SPA services and SPA tourism have become an easy and accessible method to overcome stress conditions and improve mental and physical condition. Google has also released statistic which shows that people relate SPA not only to beautification, but also overall improvement of the health or a way to overcome stress. Many people have the vision that SPA is a combination, the balance of three abovementioned factors.

Obviously holidaymakers have searched for wellness options over the past few years. Wellness is a state in which the body and mind feel good. SPA philosophy depend both on the relaxing, curative procedures for our body, and anti stress therapies which soothe the mind. According to data, SPA tourism and SPA procedures are also present in Internet. The number of articles and official reports has significantly increased and this provoked the interest of many people who are willing to benefit from SPA tourism opportunities.

Having in mind the increased popularity of SPA procedures, relaxing and curative therapies, there is a tendency of an increased demand and respectively tour operators tailor various SPA breaks to the requirements of clients. There is a wealth of mineral springs in Bulgaria and they feature over 800 types of mineral water. Also, most wellness tourism destinations in the country have not been overbuilt, so it’s normal that many foreign and local entrepreneurs show interest in the construction of modern SPA complexes.
