Ten participants in the “EDEN – 952 – the nature meets you” contest will compete

20 Bulgarian municipalities took part in the “EDEN – 952 – the nature meets you" contest. The chairman of Bulgarian State Tourism Agency announced the 10 finalists which will continue to compete so that the most excellent tourist destination in Bulgaria will be selected. All participants will be included in the new tourist map of Bulgaria, representing not so popular places which possess a great potential for development. The winner will be declared on the 13th of May 2009 in the National Palace of Culture in Sofia. The winner will take part in the exquisite European version of the contest in Brussels.

The project of Belitsa includes six eco trails in the Rila National park. Vratsa represents the natural phenomenon “Vratsata" as a tourist destination. It includes eco routes, photo safari and sightseeing of rock phenomena and natural landmarks. The project of the participant “Edinstvo” (“Unity”) in the village of Byaga, Pazardzhik region, includes bio agriculture, the creation of an orchard which aims to keep the local fruit trees sorts. The project of Kavarna is the overall development of “Yailata” archeological reserve, including pedestrian and bike trails, safari, horseriding, fishing, boat trips, diving, various underwater sports and extreme tourism. Krushari participates with the project “Suhata Reka” (The Dry River) which includes pedestrian tours, photo safari and excursions to the rock monasteries. “Vodopadite na Luky” (Luky Waterfalls) is another idea, which offers eco tourism opportunities, excursions to the remarkable waterfalls and rock phenomena. Sapareva Banya represents itself with the project Rila Waterfalls – spring of health and beauty”. It includes walking tours to the waterfalls, photo tourism and educational discussions. The natural reserve “Strandzha” takes part with a project for the Bulgarian traditional fire-dances (named “nestinarski dances), including 8-day walking tour in Strandzha as well as visits of the architectural reserves in the mountain.

The company “St. Konstantin, Peshtera” takes part with a project for the development of the science and educational tourism in the field of ecosystems and ethnographical tourism. Teteven Municipality presents Vasilyovska Mountain with its opportunities for eco tourism, mountain hiking and educational discussions. Bulgaria has a great potential for the development of alternative and eco tourism, pointed out the chairman of National Tourism Agency. In her opinion, the main goal of each of those tourist destinations is to popularize itself by representing the variety of opportunities which offers.
