Bulgarian Eco City Teteven

Teteven was awarded the special prize for Eco City, the clearest and the greenest one among 40 of the biggest Bulgarian cities.

Teteven is Bulgarian Eco City, because it is made more enchanting with its unique natural setting, extremely various, home to unique flora and fauna. Natural landmarks are really impressive such as “Goruncheto”, “Cherniq rat”- a paradise for ornithologists nearby Ribaritsa resort, “Kostina’, National Park “Central Balkan” with its two biospherical reserves-“Boatin” with the biggest habitat of beech-tree and “Tsarichina” with it unique habitat of white fir and more than 600 plant species, some of which are enlisted in the Red Book of Bulgaria.”, said Mr. Pavlov, the mayor of Teteven Municipality. Prominent artist Nikola Tanev said years ago: “If the Lord has existed and undoubtedly he has done it so, when he has decided to create the Nature, he has come in Teteven and Teteven district.”

Teteven is famous mountain resort and tourist centre. There are 250 tourist objects by category-95 hotel complexes, villas, guests’ rooms and 155 places to eat and plenty of amusement places. One-day picnics on the eco-paths “Pod pruskite na vodopada”, “Goarska Path”, “Walk to the Sun”, “Opasniq zab” and Teteven Hills are highly preferred by guests and local residents. Exciting routes to alpine chalets “Momina poliana”, “Benkovski”, “Vejen”, visits of historical and cultural objects in Teteven and the other 12 inhabited places are also beauty spots that definitely worth visiting.

Approximately 55 000 tourists have visited Teteven Municipality since the beginning of the year. Predominantly foreign tourists are from England and France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Austria, Czech Republic, Russia, Macedonia and Serbia. Tourists visit Teteven all-year round, but most actively in weekends. Tourist flow is concentrated on Ribaritsa resort village and the town of Teteven. The most popular are weekend tourism, ecotourism, congress tourism (many trainings, business meetings and lectures are used to be held in the area), as well as lots of trips for visiting objects of cultural and historical significance.
