Anita Valentinova, source :okolosveta.com, 05.03.2009

Sevlievo municipality will build a road, a parking lot and several administrative buildings for a tourist centre to promote the antique medieval Hotalich fortress. The municipality is about to purchase two plots needed for the execution of the project. Municipality’s counsellors will draft a project with which Sevlievo will apply for funding. Besides all planned future improvements, the project envisages the creation of eco paths which will make the medieval fortress even more attractive. The main aim of all improvements is to increase the popularity of Hotalich fortress as an interesting tourism spot.

It is a predecessor of the present town (4 km northern of Sevlievo), situated on a strong natural hill, overhanging the defile of the Rositsa river. It appeared between V-VI century as an early Byzantine fortress and a settlement, witch were rebuild in X century and continued their existence till the end of XVII century. Hotalich comprised a solid-build outer town witch was divided into 4 parts. It had 2 churches and some workshops - all of them were massive buildings. The citadel was surrounded by 3m high stone walls witch can be seen now. There boyar house with a small family church, barricades and warehouses were inside the fortress and now they are comparatively well preserved. Hotalich has been functioning as a tourist object for 22 years and Sevlievo history museum takes care of it. Now it is in good condition and thousands people visit it every year.
