The archaeological summer 2008 led to unique findings nearby Perperikon

Anita Valentinova, bulgariainside.com, 20.08.2008

The emperor’s seal, silver rings and ceramics have been found near Perperikon during the time of archaeological excavations this summer, said Professor Ovcharov. The seal belonged to the Byzantine emperor and ten similar to this one were found of worldwide importance. The emperor used it to impress with a seal important documents and by this way he left his peculiar visit card. Probably the rings belonged to famous people lived in the end of 12th and the beginning of 14th century. The archaeologists are also excavated the western part of the Perperikon’s acropolis. They have discovered medieval castle with six towers. The team has discovered as well the palace of the leaders of Perperikon, dated back to the first half of 14th century.
