The longest eco route in The Rhodopes mountain with the length of 1600 km, which will reach to Egeisko Sea, will have been constructed by the end of the year.
This project was represented by the chief executive of the local tourism association “The Rhodopes” George Pamporov during a press conference on the occasion of BAAT’S( Bulgarian Association for Alternative Tourism ) 10th birthday.
The eco route “From Philippopolis to Philíppi” includes a list of preserved areas and forest reserves, it will also reveal the biological diversity of The Rhodopes. It is expected that seven or nine day (depending on tourists’ preparation) route will attract Europeans, interested in eco tourism.
This eco route will be accessible both for pedestrians and bicycle riders and horse riders.
Places for alternative tourism in Bulgaria were visited by 23 million of people in 2007. 15,9% of this total number are Bulgarian tourists and others are foreigners.
