The museum “Ancient Nessebar” in the coastal town of Nessebar marked its professional holiday and opened its three exhibitions for guests. One of the impressive exhibitions was named “The treasures of Messambria necropolis”. There historic monuments which are kept in the museum due to the latest archaeological excavations, having been carried out for 5 months in the Necropolis of Messambria. Dishes dated back to the Classic epoch (5th-4th century B.C.), extraordinary of their artistic value can be seen there, as well as various in shape and decoration jewels. One will admire at the impressive collection of classical terracotta and the rare plain terracotta, representing Tetis and Hypocamp. An interesting photo exhibition, named “Archaelogy-a way of life” can be seen in the foyer of the museum. The greatest interest has been shown in the constantly renewed exposition. The changes have become facts because of the rapid enrichment of museum’s funds in the last couple of years. Naturally, a unique gold treasure discovered several months ago was focal point of the presentation. It is unique worldwide and includes golden jewellry weighing 200 gr. The treasure dates back to the third century BC. Unique of their kind monuments telling stories of the treasure of Messambria necropolis can be also seen in the museum. A separate exhibition presents the process of coin making. Selected samples of silver and bronze coins are presented in special window displays.
