The oldest wine-cellar on the Balkans will develop wine tourism

Anita Varbanova, dnevnik.bg, 11.05.2008

The Institute of wine producing and viticulture in Pleven is the most ancient on the Balkan Peninsula. It plans a project for the development of wine tourism in Bulgaria. This was announced by Violeta Dimitrova, the director of the Institute. This kind of specialized tourism is a tradition in many countries all over the world, but Bulgaria only just now enters into it. The city of Pleven and the country have preconditions for developing such a program, which will represent simultaneously both the natural beauties of Bulgaria and its opportunities for the production of high quality grapes and wonderful wines. The vault of the Institute in Pleven-the oldest on the Balkans, offering 100 year wines, can welcome guests from all over the world. The production base and the way how the vines are grown will be also shown to tourists. Thus, 105 year history of the first Wine Institute on the Balkan Peninsula with, which is fifth in the world, will turn the city of Pleven into an excellent tourist destination for wine tourism.
