Tourists from the Former Communist Bloc Invade Bulgarian Beaches
The Standart Daily, 10.07.2006
Tourists from the former socialist republics are coming back to the Bulgarian seaside. The German tourists are now outnumbered by groups from Russia, Romania, Poland and Hungary.
The Russian tourists at the seaside are now by fifteen percent more than they were last season. Hotel and restaurant-keepers say the Russian tourists are their best customers and they also spare no money while on holiday.
"The Russians are known as generous holidaymakers," said Maria Georgieva, manager of the Sunny Day holiday complex, at a working meeting of the National Board for Tourism.
Over twenty thousand Russian tourists visited the complex last year.
Romanian tourists prefer the northern seaside of Bulgaria "The next season they will probably discover our southern coast as well," said Krassimir Stanev, Director of Albena JSC. The Romanian tourists come to Bulgaria attracted by luxurious hotels and low prices.
The number of tourists from Germany, however, is reducing every year. This season the Germans at the Bulgarian seaside are by fifteen or thirty-five percent less than they were last year, hotel-keepers and tour operators say.
"It is untrue that only poor tourists come to Bulgaria," says Yosif Yosifov, chief of TUI-Bulgaria.
According to him, the Bulgarians should be happy that ordinary people come to spend their money here.
