Nearly 100,000 tourists have visited the cape Kaliakra and Yailata this summer, said the director of the Historical Museum in Kavarna Mrs. Mircheva. Yailata itself has been visited by 10 000-15 000 tourists. Bulgarian, Romanian and Russian tourists have been particularly interested in the landmark. The reserve is a coastal terrace that is divided by the sea with massive rocks that rise at 50-60m. A cave settlement that comprises of 101 dwellings has been discovered in the reserve. All dwellings date back to the 5th century B.C. At the present time, an archaeological project for the restoration of the rock church ‘St.Constantine and Elena’ is being developed. Proto-Bulgarian signs that are called Runi /from Runic Alphabet/ are also found on the walls and that is why the reserve Yailata is a landmark of great importance. Yailata reserve is located 18km away from Kavarna.
