Vacation Opportunities Still Available in August
Standart Daily, 20.07.2009
For the first time in years the prices in Bulgaria's Black Sea resorts near Varna are dropping down in the height of the season. Hotel keepers fight tooth and nail to save the season. The crisis has hit tourism hard and some hotels on the north offer bargain prices of 6-7 euros per one night stay. From the beginning of the season in Zlatni Pyasatsi (Golden Sands) resort alone 17 hotels had been closed. Till the middle of August their number is expected to increase. According to businessmen, the number of foreign holidaymakers at Bulgarian resorts is in times less compared to previous years. On the other hand Bulgarians that traditionally used to spend their summer vacation in Greece or Turkey, this year have preferred Bulgaria's Black Sea beaches. A 10 day 'all inclusive' vacation in Turkey costs 199 euro compared to 170 euro in Bulgaria. "This is the only way to attract more Bulgarians", hotel owners commented. Precisely because of the dumping prices in Turkish resorts Bulgarian businessman on the north Black Sea coast had to reconsider the prices in order to keep their clients. The highest offers in four and five star hotels now vary between 25 and 40 euro.
