Yachts and water sports become popular at Bulgarian seaside

Anita Valentinova, source: nextbgtrip.com, 05.10.2010

Yachts and water sports will be a priority for the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, said mayor of Nessebar Nikolay Dimitrov at the French exhibition for water sports Grand Pavoa, which organizers showed their interest in the popular Black Sea city.

The exhibition is one of the most significant events in France and Europe. It was established 38 years ago in the French city of La Rochelle. It has rapidly expanded and nowadays it has subsidiaries in Brazil, South America, Shanghai. It is planned that the exhibition will be exported in other countries as well. Just a month before the start of the exhibition, official representatives visited Bulgaria and attended meetings with the mayors of Varna, the sea capital of Bulgaria, and Nessebar to consider all possibilities. "They also visited Balchik in order to assess the possibilities how to organize the event in Bulgaria as they seek new markets.’’ , revealed the mayor of Nessebar. The exhibition presents not only expensive yachts , but also inexpensive boats, water sports. Nessebar has a municipal marina and fishing port.

There is also a private marina and a fishing port at the territory of the old city. In general, Nessebar has the best conditions to host at least a part of the exhibition, said the mayor. According to the mayor's idea, the fair can be presented in a series of festivals before it acquires the necessary capability. "As the market is rather classy and we are not prepared, we are yet to begin to prepare our bases. There are organizers from Istanbul, Turkey. Black Sea region is the closest to the Turkish area and this is the reason why organizers have a great interest in investment in Bulgaria.’’, said Dimitrov.

Nessebar, the pearl at Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, is the preferred city for the exhibition primarily because of the history, cultural heritage and the close distance to the resort Sunny Beach. The entire Nessebar Bay and primarily the marinas which comply with all European standards are an essential prerequisite for the exhibition’s presence in Nessebar. The municipal boat-fishing port in the northern part of the Old Town has a certificate of validity and is now registered. "I informed Bulgaria's Ambassador to France Marin Raikov for these ideas. Now the question is to implement the ideas in the most efficient way. We must think about options to construct a municipal marina. Nessebar municipality has a strict policy, regarding sports clubs and we have three local yacht clubs. Diving is well developed in Nessebar and we have some achievements in this field. ", said Dimitrov. There are many things to consider about the bases and investment, but have yet to launch, added Mr.Dimitrov.
