The “Assumption” church presents one of the most interesting monuments of the culture of the Bulgarian National Revival. It was most probably built about the middle of XVIII century over the preserved grounds of another medieval church, which was destroyed in the time of the Ottoman invasion. The most valuable thing in the church is the unique wood–carved iconostasis. The carvings are tracery, of relief, and very expressive.

Flowers are the basic motif of the carvings, and among them stylized images of birds and mythical animals have been inserted. The master – carver is anonymous while Toma Vishanov – the founder of the Bansko School of Iconography drew the icons. Unfortunately, these masterpieces of painting from the time of the Revival were irretrievably damaged during a deliberately cause fire in the time of Communist regime in Bulgaria – on September 7 th, 1958.
