The “Holy Trinity” Compound Temple presents one of the greatest historic and cultural landmarks of the town of Bansko. Local masters built the church in 1835, its architectural type being three – nave pseudo – basilica; the initiative and the material assistance belonged to Lazar German, an influential merchant. The mural paintings are the work of Velian Ognev – representative of the Debar School of painting; Dimitar and Simeon Mollerov – the notorious masters from Bansko Iconographic School – draw the icons. The church presents a masterpiece of beautiful synthesis between architectural volumes and spaces, woodcarving, frescos and icons. Its grand silhouette is in perfect harmony with 30 – meter high bell tower built in the close proximity.

The bell tower, the two faced clock measuring the exact time for 150 years now, as well as the four bells, present the work of local masters once again. The clock was made by the self – taught Usta (Master) Todor Hadjiradonov while the bells are work of the eminent moulders Velliganov brothers. Since its construction in the times of the Ottoman yoke, the “Holy Trinity” church was established as the most significant spiritual and cultural center of Bansko during the Bulgarian National Revival, a fortress of east Orthodox religion and of Bulgarian national spirit. It is closely connected with the names of patriots – priests, bookmen, educators and national revolutionaries. It was namely in the “Holy Trinity” church that in 1912 – an year not to be forgotten – the independence of Bansko was proclaimed.
