Alternative tourism is still in a process of developing

Round 340,000 Bulgarians and 220,000 foreigners chose rural tourism in Bulgaria in the past year.
Rumen Draganov, a member of the leadership of Bulgarian Association for Alternative Tourism (BAAT), reported on the occasion of the association's 10th birthday.
The turnover from rural and alternative tourism in Bulgaria in 2007 came up to 65 million € from the total tourism turnover of 1,2 milliard €. “People, who chose alternative way for relaxation, are 0,5% of the total number of visitors in our country in 2007", summarized Draganov.
Ten years after the establishment of BAAT, it is believed that the alternative tourism is still learning how to walk due to the serious disunion. Not only the different types of activities are circumstances for this disunion, but also different tourism training of people, offering various kinds of services.
Opportunities for enlargement of eco-tourism are hidden in the development of outlying rural areas, unique with their architecture and traditions. Building up and maintaining eco-hotels, as well as offering dishes, cooked with ecology grown products is also among the most modern and expensive natural experiences.
