Archaeologists discovered two new towers in Sozopol

Two new towers near the entrance door of the Old city in Sozopol were discovered

The finds are situated at the distance of 100 m from each other and they are a part of the unique fortification system which embraced the town in the past, announced the Chairman of Sozopol Foundation. Towers were discovered during archaeological explorations and accompanying works of preservation and restoration of the fortification system walls of architectural and historical reserve “Antique Sozopol”.

All researches, having been made are a part of the project “Creation of a centre and European net for the promotion of Bulgarian coastal cultural heritage". The restoration of both fortification wall and the main entrance of antique Sozopol are also foreseen to be made. The mayor of Sozopol also pointed out that the aim of the project is to make possible the proper insertion of the newly explored part of the fortification wall into the image of the Antique City. Sozopol excavations received European funding. New facilities, an arch and an alley will be also constructed in order to turn the impressive spot into attractive tourism attraction.
