The future of Bansko and World Ski Cup- (im)possible

We are pleased to bring to your attention an interview with the Marketing Manager of the concessionaire of the ski track in Bansko ‘Ulen’. The interview with Mr.Ivan Obreykov outlines the most important features for the opening of ski season 2010/2011 in Bansko.

Mr. Obreykov revealed that this year all guests will be pleased with the program for the official opening of the ski season 2010/2011. The ski season in Bansko will be opened with a parallel slalom of the ski stars Mark Jirardeli, Peter Popangelov, Andreas Wentzel, Maria Valizer, Josef Strobl,Leonard Stock, Luc Alfand and Michael von Groningen. The competition will be broadcasted at Nova TV. We will delight a concert and many dance shows at the snowy scene at Banderishka Polyana. Also, a charity bazaar will be organized and every skier will make an individual present. All funds and valuables will be collected in the fund ‘Learn to ski’ which helps children under 12 years to develop their skills and learn to ski.

This year the concessionaire of the ski tracks ‘Ulen’ invested 13 million EUR in the ski zone for the upcoming winter season. Bansko now boasts two new lifts, 6-seat lift at Banderishka Polyana is the only one in Bulgaria and the 4-seat one is situated at the area ‘Plateau’. Ulen has purchased 45 artificial snow making facilities and therefore the total number of the snow making equipment in Bansko is 230. Let us remind you that the ski tracks have been reclamated during the summer.

Since Bansko will host the super combination and slalom of World Ski Cup, an organization committee was created in order to help Bansko municipality, Bulgarian Ski Federation and Ulen organize the grand event. Mr.Obreykov pointed out that since Bansko has organized many events of such scale.

Mr.Obreykov said that since the organization of such an event is rather expensive, the return on investment is too difficult to be attained. However, it is clear that Bulgaria easily and successfully advertises the tourism opportunities that it can offer for all tourists, so the viral campaign is guaranteed worldwide. Since Bansko has been included on the World Ski Cup list, it proves that the ski resort is a good ski centre that can host such contests.

Mr.Obreykov said that in order to prevent incidents which may happen with skiers who enjoy themselves off the ski tracks, National Park Pirin will impose fines for all skiers who breach the rules. The concessionaire of the ski tracks advises the skiers to use the marked ski track only.
