Skiing star Michael Walchhofer opened the season in Bulgaria's most popular winter resort. Daily Mail’s top 100 winter resorts in the world is a popular ranking that is made at the beginning of each year. It seems that this year Bansko is at top position at the beginning of 2012. All winter resorts in Europe have been ranked in compliance with several criteria such as prices, condition of the ski and snowboard pistes, as well as recent upgrade of the lifts. Bansko has been ranked just behind Canada's Silver Star and the US ski resort Stowe. "Bansko is a new resort and a good example of what can be achieved in Eastern Europe given the right investments," reported British Daily Mail. Bansko winter resort, Bulgaria has opened the new skiing season at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday and visitors enjoyed spectacular show. Austria's skiing legend Michael Walchhofer, Bulgaria's Petar Popangelov and Marc Girardelli, five-time World Cup overall champion, will be special guests at the grand opening. All fans of the white stuff will have the opportunity to use the ski lifts at promotional prices this Saturday. Ski lift passes for winter season 2011/2012 have remained at their last year’s levels. All who have bought ski lift passes will use again the fast corridor and will not wait at the queue at the cabin lift.
