Bansko won the host of four events of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup

Bansko won the host of four events of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup. Bulgaria shall host four events of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup – two ladies’ and two men’s events. This was decided on a meeting of the International Ski Organization FIS held at the Croatian city of Dubrovnik. During season 2010-2011, on February 26th – 27th, Bansko shall host a Super-Combined Ski Event for men including Super Giant Slalom and one run Slalom as well as a single event Slalom. On February 25th – 26th, 2011-2012, Bansko shall host a Downhill and a Super Giant Slalom for ladies. A general rehearsal for major events shall be the two events of the European Cup held on January 22nd and 23rd, 2010 – two men’s slaloms. “We are proud for the trust placed on us by the International Ski Federation to host not only ladies’ but men’s events too” this was the comment from Dubrovnik of Tseko Minev, President of the Bulgarian Ski Federation. Minev also added: “Before the decision was taken, Atle Kaardal, Director of the ladies’ events, personally read the report for ladies’ events during the year organized by us. The report was entirely positive and showed that we have organized the events according to the international standards. I am very glad that Bulgaria won the men’s events among such major competitors”. The chairman of the Ski Federation explains that Bansko should accept the Super Giant Slalom and the Super Combination according to the request but he managed to convince his colleagues from Austria to organize the Super Giant Slalom and Bansko to organize the Slalom, which is the more attractive event. This winter Bansko was the host of the Ladies’ World Cup that has been broadcasted by 22 foreign televisions. The investment for realization of the three events amounts to 4 million BGN.
