Curfew Introduced at Seaside

Standart Daily, 15.06.2005

Going down towards the beach in Varna (northern Black Sea coast), about half a kilometre before reaching it, you plunge into tumult of bass sounds and varieties of tunes. Some ten cafes and pubs play their sound systems at 4,000 Watts and about 100 decibels and if all are played at one and the same time, the clamour is discernible kilometers away. The DJs explain these are the usual sound parametres for open-air public houses, as most of those along Varna beach strip are. Their opinion, though, is hardly shared by the people living in immediate proximity to the unceasing racket. Varna Mayor Kiril Yordanov warned all pubs to lower the noise and threatened with fines and even closing down. Pub-keepers in Nessebar municipality (southern Black Sea coast) will be fined 500 levs if breaching the order of Nessebar Mayor to keep down loud music from 2hpm to 4hpm and from midnight to 7ham. see source
