Downpours Fail to Affect Bulgaria's Summer Tourism Season

Sofia Echo Com, 04.07.2006

The downpours that hit and flooded Bulgaria's coastal regions on July 1 and 2 would fail affecting negatively the tourism season in the country, representatives of the State Agency for Tourism (SAT) said. Emergency teams have taken all needed measures to prevent further problems, Bulgarian National Radio reported. Water was pumped out of the flooded ground floors and streets of the affected coastal cities, representatives of the State Agency for Civil Protection said. The state of emergency in Nessebar ended 24 hours before expected, emergency teams said, responding to claims the floods could chase tourists away from Bulgaria's Black Sea coast. Other affected regions including Irakli, Emona and Obzor were getting back to normal, as well. The power supply was re-established everywhere. The state of emergency remains in force only in Bourgas' Malko Turnovo district. Two bridges in the region collapsed and the village was inaccessible, Malko Turnovo mayor Ivan Ivanov said. see source
