Folk Crafts Fair in Etara

The Folk Crafts Fair is organized in Etara in September every year. This year it is held from the 7th till 9th of September. It is conducted under the aegis of the Minister of Culture and the Mayor of Gabrovo. The main purposes of the Folk Fair are to represent the Bulgarian folk crafts to the mass audience, thus it contributes to keeping the interest in Bulgarian folklore alive, and to encourage the cognitive interest in different craft skills, related to old Bulgarian both national and local traditions. Organizers firmly believe that their initiative will help preservation and development of the cultural traditions by representing the diversity and wealth of the local and Bulgarian contributions throughout Europe. A temporary opening of the Etara museum will be held. Whatever you would like to know for Bulgarian national folklore customs, you will be introduced to in a pretty new way. Over 60 craft masters will be demonstrated. There will be participants not only from Bulgaria, but also from France, Romania, Ukraine, Russia and Germany. You will have the opportunity to see a variety of crafts. Some of them are: pottery-making, cowbell-making, cutlery, carpet industry and many others.. Everyday practice of some of the crafts can be also seen. The sounds of the traditional Bulgarian music and dances will provide guests of the Folk Fair with good mood and many smiles all the time. An attractive fashion-show of Bulgarian national costumes of all ethnographical regions of the country will be held as well. To get familiar with Bulgarian folklore and crafts, you should be at this Festival in order to feel what is called Bulgarian magic and to keep in your mind forever the enchanting place Etara, a reminiscence of unique crafts.
