Nessebar coastal resort and Bansko ski resort the richest municipalities

Nessebar coastal resort, the favourite Bansko ski resort and Primorsko seaside town are among the richest municipalities in Bulgaria. The figures are clear because of a calculation, made on the basis of the ratio generated revenue per person, living in the respective municipality. Sofia capital city, however, is barely ranked at 20th place in this research. The data becomes clear from a research, having been conducted by the Economics Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, which measures the amount of revenue which Bulgarian municipalities generate.
For instance, Nessebar has generated 49 times greater revenue than the poorest Bulgarian municipality, Ruen, has done so. The municipal revenue is generated through local taxes and fees, management of municipal properties – i.e. sales and rent, collecting fees for municipally-run institutions such as kindergartens, trade companies and tradesmen, and fines. Due to the booming construction and the brisk property market in the region of Nessebar, the municipality has reached great revenues thresholds.
Municipality which top the ranking are Byala (Black Sea), Kuklen, (Plovdiv District, site of an industrial zone), Tsarevo (Black Sea), Kavarna, Sozopol, Pomorie, Balchik, Razlog /Bansko region/.
The majority of municipalities has prospered and hence is placed in the top 20 in the ranking due to the fact that they are located in a close proximity to a big city or they have rapidly developing industry.
