Nessebar promotes cultural tourism

New tourist route was presented by Nessebar municipality for the holiday of the town, 15th of August 2011. ‘Religious route’ was a special surprise for both residents and tourists in Nessebar.
Nessebar makes restoration process of two old churches ‘St.John the Baptist’ and ‘St.Paraskeva’ under a project of the program ‘Regional development’. Restoration of two churches should be completed in two years. Medieval churches ‘St.John the Baptist’ and ‘St.Paraskeva’ mark the beginning of the specialised tourist route, called ‘Religious route’. Thus, Nessebar starts the integration of cultural and pilgrimage tourism in a traditional holiday destination. The municipality works on the projects for the restoration of over 11 traditional churches, included in the route. All temples will be restored and conserved, the route will be properly marked and the churches will be illuminated.
The municipality would like to apply for a project to restore the Roman mineral baths. Only two ancient churches have been restored within the last two years and one of them, St.Stephen, was even inaugurated and now it is fully functional. It is believed that religious and wedding tourism will be further developed in Nessebar.
