On November 15 „Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD and Consortium “TIE- İÇTAŞ” signed contract for the construction of the New Passenger Terminal Areas at Burgas and Varna airports. The construction of the new passenger terminals at Varna and Burgas airports is scheduled to commence in December. It is expected that 500 workers will be involved in the construction works on the territory of the two airports. It is planned that guests of Varna and Burgas airports will be welcomed in the new buildings as of summer season 2013.
The new passenger terminals at the sea airports, managed by the German- Bulgarian consortium “Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD will have large areas for arriving and departing passengers, state-of-the art passenger service systems, modern retail areas and spacious open spaces. The modern baggage handling system will be implemented and will increase the speed of service and the quality of the service standards. The project capacity of the new terminal at Burgas is around 2 700 000 passengers and in Varna 1 800 000. The check-in desks for passengers will be 31 at Burgas airport and 25 in Varna. The designs are fully consistent with the requirements relevant to Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen area.
